Bullying
Many kids are being bullied in our country. There are many people trying to fight against bullying like teen activists Alex Libby, and Emily-Anne Rigal. Through all this hard work, bullying has declined a small amount-but not fully as it continues to be a major dilemma for everyone. Most bullying happens to kids at school in lightly supervised areas. But even some ADULTS are bullied at their workplaces.
The definition of bullying (from Scott Foresman Dictionary) is “to tease, frighten, threaten, or even hurt another person(s).” This definition shows some of the different ways you can be bullied and what it is. Bullying is a gargantuan problem in our world today. A study shows that 2,000 American kids have committed suicide because of bullying. That number continues to increase. What this means is that 2,000 kids have ended their own young lives because someone physically or verbally hurt them. One teen activist named Alex Libby told in an interview, “I was regularly strangled and punched.” This tormenting was happening when Alex was in 6th grade! But not just kids are bullied. 65 MILLION workers are bullied at their workplace. This shows that bullying is not only a problem with youth but also adults.
In conclusion, bullying continues to be a huge headache for many people across the nation. Though some efforts have been made to end bullying, many kids and adults are still being bullied. One of these efforts is that the state of Missouri upgraded bullying to a felony. This means that whoever bullies someone in Missouri they will usually end up with a sentence of one or more years in prison. For more information on bullying you can visit www.bullyingstatistics.org.
